Guide: Organizing Properties with Service Areas in HomeWatcher

Organizing Properties with Service Areas in HomeWatcher
As your book of business grows, the homes you watch start to cluster: a handful in one gated community, a few more across a particular zip code. Service areas let you group those properties into named, color-coded buckets so you can see and plan your work by neighborhood. An area might be "Shady Oaks Country Club" or simply a zip-code cluster you service together.
A service area does two practical things for you. First, it color-codes properties across your lists so it is easy to spot which homes sit together. Second, it records the preferred visit days you typically service that neighborhood, which helps you keep your scheduling consistent. Areas are a manual grouping that you control. They organize your properties and your preferred days, but they do not automatically plan or order your driving route for you.
How to create a service area
- Open the Areas section and choose Add New Area.
- Enter an Area Name. This is the only required field.
- (Optional) Add a Zip Code or Region label to describe the cluster.
- Pick a Color from the palette or the color picker. This is what makes the area easy to recognize at a glance everywhere it appears.
- Add an optional Description for your own reference.
- Under Preferred Visit Days, toggle on the days you usually service this neighborhood, Monday through Sunday.
- (Optional) Set up a Schedule Template using a recurring pattern or specific dates. When you later create schedules for properties in this area, those dates pre-fill for you, saving repetitive data entry.
- Click Add Area.

How to assign properties to an area
You assign a property to an area from the property's create or edit form using the Area dropdown. If the right area does not exist yet, you can create one inline without leaving the property form. A property does not have to belong to an area, so you can group the homes that make sense and leave one-off properties unassigned.
Seeing your areas at a glance
Your Areas list shows each area with its color swatch and a count of how many properties it contains. That gives you a quick read on where your work is concentrated, and you can edit any area to adjust its color, preferred days, or schedule template as your routine evolves.

Why this helps your business
Grouping properties by area and recording your preferred visit days keeps your scheduling tidy and predictable. When you sit down to plan, the color-coding and preferred days make it obvious which homes belong together and when you tend to visit them, so nothing slips through the cracks as you grow.
